Bloomfield, Dunlap bulls delivered for 112-day performance test
Bulls that will be sold at the Bloomfield and Dunlap auction barns have been delivered for the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association’s 2014 Bull Evaluation Program (BEP). Forty-three consignors delivered 125 bulls (111 spring-born and 14 fall). The bulls were delivered to two locations depending on their birth date; spring-born bulls are at the test station at the Van Meter Feedyard in Guthrie Center, and the fall-born bulls are at the test station at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
The bulls completed a 21-day warm-up period following their respective delivery dates. Bulls were weighed twice going on-test at the completion of the warm-up. The two weights are averaged and this marks the starting point of the 112-day performance test. Bulls will be evaluated for carcass merit, reproductive soundness, structural correctness, disposition and growth. The top three-quarters of each breed making test requirements as outlined in the guidelines by the Production Efficiency Committee will be catalogued for sale at their consignment location.
Both spring and fall Bloomfield bulls will be sold Mar. 17, 2014 at the Bloomfield Livestock Auction Market in Bloomfield. Spring bulls will be sold at the Dunlap Livestock Auction Market in Dunlap on Mar. 28, 2014.
