Regulatory Efforts on Environmental Issues

ICA has developed decision-making flow-charts relative for cattle producers as they consider efforts they make to protect Iowa's water quality. These charts were developed in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, relative to the regulatory rules that have been developed for livestock farms.

Select the chart that matches your farm's livestock capacity.

Reporting a Manure Discharge

If you have a manure discharge, you should report it immediately and start taking action to prevent it from reaching a waterway.

Be Prepared for an Inspection

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) inspects and investigates complaints about livestock farms and respond to emergency spill situations. Because these situations usually occur with little or no notice to the farmer, it is important to be prepared for inspection at any time.
